Caring for a dog with sensitive skin and a problem coat is a challenge for most owners. In their case, it's particularly important which product you use to bathe them, but even beyond that they may need a little extra help. Here's what to use.
For a dog with sensitive skin, it’s important to use products that contain skin-friendly, natural ingredients. The chemicals in some products can help to clean thoroughly, but they can also irritate the skin and coat of sensitive dogs. It is therefore extremely important to use products with natural ingredients when grooming these dogs.
If your pet’s skin is more sensitive than the average, with bumps, stings or scars, make sure you choose a product for sensitive skin. It’s best to consult your vet when making your decision.
Even if your pet’s skin is not particularly sensitive, the weather can still affect it. Not only the cold, but the heat indoors from the heating can also make his skin more sensitive, causing him to scratch more often and increasing irritation. Dogs tend to shed more often as their skin dries out. It is therefore important for all dogs to use products that contain skin-friendly, natural ingredients.
The bathing process can be problematic not only because the dog does not like the process. If your pet has sensitive skin, cleaning him is even more of a problem because it doesn’t matter what shampoo you use. Be sure to choose a product that contains ingredients that support, moisturise and help regenerate sensitive skin.
If you sense your dog is starting to lose its pleasant scent, but doesn’t appear to be muddy or dirty, you may want to use a dry shampoo or a refreshing deodorising spray. The former should be gently rubbed into your pet’s coat, while the latter can be simply sprayed on to leave your four-legged friend smelling pleasant and feeling soft to the touch. You can also use the skin-friendly spray to scent his bed. This product is particularly useful in the autumn and winter, when dogs spend more time indoors and the unpleasant smell can be more disturbing.
If your pet has enjoyed the muddy season, it may be time to give them a bath. You can choose solid dog soap as well as liquid shampoo.
Especially for longer-haired pets, you can also use a conditioner balm, which makes combing easier and also moisturises and nourishes the coat with valuable ingredients. For a pet with a problem coat, it is important to give the outer coat a little extra support, both inside and out (proper nutrition).
Nose and paws care in summer and the approach of cold weather is of paramount importance. This is because extreme weather conditions can easily damage the pads and olfactory organs of animals, which can easily dry out. The wounded paws and and chapped noses can cause significant pain for the dog. It is therefore advisable to use products containing natural ingredients to care for these areas.
