I’m sure every pet owner has seen their pet begging for a strawberry, peach, or other natural treat. But a responsible owner does not immediately give the dog the fruit in their hand. Because there are some fruits that can cause serious digestive problems; some that are poisonous to your dog’s system; and some that, unlike the former, that  are healthy for the animal.

Most red fruits are edible for dogs

Peaches and cherries can cause stomach ache

First of all, it is important to clarify that the most popular fruits of the summer like peaches and cherries are not poisonous to dogs.

If your dog gets a pitted cherry or a slice or two of some peach, it should be fine.

– says Matthew McCarthy, a DVM veterinarian and a veterinarian in New York, Queens’ Animal Hospital. However, depending on the quantity, these fruits can cause long-lasting discomfort. As it turns out, a whole small plate of cherries or peaches can cause digestive problems for the animal. The reason is sugar, as fructose increases the production of abdominal secretions to an excessive extent, which leads to diarrhea. Therefore, you can give your pet a few pieces of cherries and just a few slices of peach.

Do not give grapes to the dog

Grapes and raisins should not be among the fruits you give to your dog

In contrast to the seasonal fruits above, grapes and raisins, the dried variety, should be kept away from dogs in late summer or early autumn. The founder of the animal hospital says even a grape or a raisin can be fatal.

(grapes) can potentially lead to the rapid onset of kidney damage.

However, scientists have not yet identified exactly which of the substances in the fruit causes this toxicity. Therefore, the veterinarian warns that we should never leave grapes out on the table so that the animals will not eat them. If you do eat a piece or even a small cluster, contact your vet immediately.

Berries are free for dogs to eat

In nature, it is not for nothing that bushes with berries have evolved within the dog’s eyeline. These are safe for dogs to eat. Although the sugar levels in raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries are relatively high, they do not cause problems for the animal. Of course, one kilogram is a very serious inconvenience, but this is true for any additional food. So, it’s safe to give your pet raspberries, blueberries, or strawberries in moderation. In fact, these fruits have high vitamin contents so you can even use fresh berries as a kind of natural food supplement. You can also choose the frozen version, especially in the summer when it is good for the dog to get a cold refreshment. Finally, it’s worth remembering that no matter what kind of fruit you choose – which is edible for your dog – always make sure it’s in moderation!
