One of the most iconic and delicious foods of the autumn-winter season, pumpkin is perhaps more popular today than ever before. You've probably thought about sharing it with your dog.
But is it a good idea to give your dog pumpkin? If so, can he eat it with the skin on? But how much exactly? What effect will this fibre-rich vegetable have on him? What should we do if he tasted it raw?
Fortunately, in complete safety you can give your dog pumpkin not only does it not harm him, but it also contributes to the healthy functioning of his body. Pumpkin very healthy for your dog because it’s full of ingredients that support the animal’s immune system. It contains essential vitamins such as beta-carotene and vitamins A and E. These improve eye health and act as anti-inflammatory agents, preventing or even alleviating external and internal inflammation. Also very rich in dietary fibre, aids the dog’s digestion and contributes to proper intestinal function. In addition, however it has a relatively low calorie content. A single tablespoon of pumpkin puree contains only 3 kcal.
All forms can be eaten by the animal. Whether raw, baked, cooked or mashed, it will love it. For sheer practicality, it’s best to go for pureed, as it can be made in very large portions and will keep for up to a month in the freezer. For your dog, it’s best to give it in small portions. You can give it to him as a reward instead of a snack, but you shouldn’t give him too much at once, as this will may give him a tummy ache. Also make sure that you never mix pumpkin with poisonous ornamental pumpkins!
