After 12 years, broken hearts have found peace of mind after their lost dog was incredibly returned to them. Minion, now 15, went missing in 2011 when a maintenance man accidentally left the back gate of the yard open.

Shocking, but probably the lost dog had been a stray on the streets of Maricopa County, Arizona, for 12 years. The elderly dog was captured by an officer of the county’s animal care and control agency and brought in for inspection. When a stray dog is picked up, there’s always a chance that it’s just lost and the owner will be happy to welcome it home. Fortunately, that was the case in this instance.

The doggy was not the same

“Our field officer brought in an elderly dog who seemed a little shy and sad; he never wagged his tail. He was microchipped and we called the number for him. We found out that the dog’s name was Minion and. He had been missing for 12 years.” – the organisation said in a Facebook post. There was nothing left to do but reunite long-lost family members. They were a little apprehensive, not sure if Minion would recognise his owners after so many years.

When they arrived at the house, they explained to the family that Minion had indeed aged. Not moving as they remembered. However, as soon as they opened the kennel door and the dog saw his family, he immediately started wagging his tail and became as excited as a puppy. They took him inside where he ran around the other dogs and his tail never rested for a moment – he was finally home!

We are very happy that Minion is home. This meeting would not have happened without a microchip! Everyone should chip your pet and don’t forget to update your records!” – said the owner. “I’m not crying, you’re crying! You’re not crying, I’m crying. It makes me wish dogs could talk, I wish dogs could talk, so they could tell their stories!

Dogs can’t talk, but we’re asking you to do something for them

A mikrochip is just as essential as vaccinations, fresh water or food and shelter! As Minion’s owner pointed out, if there is a change of address or phone number, it should be updated immediately, because without it, if the pet is lost, there is little point in having a chip. Thank you if you act responsibly!
