This heroic shepherd dog was not even frightened by the freezing power of the elements! When Storm Babet hit Wales, the area where sheep were grazing was completely submerged, trapping 3 very valuable animals.
The farmer, Llŷr Jones, is extremely proud of his right-hand girl Patsy, who braved the massive flooding caused by the storm in the village of Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr with death-defying courage. Watch the video to see how the shepherd dog saved the sheep with her brilliant skill.

“I know she’s a good swimmer and I thought I’d give her a try. She has no sense of fear.” – said owner Jones of 10-year-old Patsy, a border collie mix. When Mr Jones gave the dog the green light, she didn’t hesitate for a moment and went after the sheep. Even though the video footage clearly shows that the water in the flooded area can be very deep and covers a huge zone. The farmer also said that the farm is located in an area that is unfortunately prone to flooding. Nevertheless, the animals have learned to live with this this. So they have no problem moving to a safer place in time. When he went around to check on them, she was surprised to see 3 ewes in serious trouble in an area blocked by water. The place looked more like a river bed than a pasture. “She used his skills, education and intelligence to bring the ewes back to land. It was only a small part of Patsy’s day, but the internet’s reaction was amazing.” – said the farmer, who also said he knew from the first moment he was dealing with a special animal in the dog.
The rescue operation:
Mr Jones said, in the Interview with Farmes Guardian, that the differences between Patsy and her 5 siblings were apparent from a very early age. The puppies were stuck behind a locked gate on the farm. They all started howling and barking blindly, Patsy was the only one who figured outh the gate and opened it. It seems like a small thing, but for a farmer who is constantly surrounded by animals – and so knows their behaviour – it was a tell-tale sign of the shepherdess ‘s talent.
“Patsy is a very special dog on the farm; I couldn’t do my job without her. Sheepdogs are vital to farmers and the work they do. Her loyalty and friendship have helped him through many difficult times on the farm. She is my best friend. ” – said Mr Jones. But he also added that although Patsy was the talk of the internet, it was just another day in their lives; they face many equally difficult challenges on an almost daily basis. Perhaps this is best illustrated by the fact that work and dedication is incredibly invaluable.
