It is the break of dawn, from the distance a moose can be heard below, and the sounder of boars is currently patiently feeding at the through. We see this serene, peaceful scene, however, there is another species that calls the Gemenc Forest their home, the jackals. Hungry jackals.
In the periphery of the video, there are golden jackals on the prowl, surely looking to get a good meal. Although it seems that the wild boars are ignoring them, we are sure that they are keeping one eye on the jackals at all times. One brave sow got tired of the predators hanging around and went after them, so they thought it better to be moving on.
A lovely little video to warm the heart, straight from the Gemenc Forest. There’s no drama or nerve-wracking tension; we simply observe the forest dwellers going about their simple daily lives. We have written a lot about the golden jackals, so you will know that they have no natural predators in Hungary. Therefore it is easier for them to thrive and cause damage, not only to wildlife but even to livestock. They are considered game animals that can be hunted all year round. Yet we have the same childlike admiration for them as we do for other animals. Indeed, if you look closely, they have many fascinating features.
Altough not a golden jackal, a very similar looking dog breed (at least from afar) is the Carolina Dog. Read about the breed in this article.
